Welcome to the St. John’s Athletic Department - home of the Lions!

The purpose of sports at St. John’s International School, both within the curriculum as well as after school, is to promote the physical, mental, moral, and emotional wellbeing of the student-athlete. We encourage a winning spirit without losing sight of the ideals of athletic competition. Our athletes travel extensively around Europe and St. John’s families host hundreds of visiting athletes each year. In this way, our students and their families have the opportunity to participate in a fun and rewarding programme supporting the development of our school values; respect, integrity and companionship.

I encourage you to visit our wonderful sports facilities. My office door is always open to you, and I will be more than delighted to answer any questions you may have.

Anthony Hennelly

Competitive sports for Middle and High School and after school sports activities for Primary School

Sport is a really important element of an St John’s education, both within the curriculum and outside. We want our students to develop their skills, athleticism, expertise and fitness at every age and to see sport and physical activity as a non-negotiable part of their lives. This enjoyment of sport and love of being active is nurtured by our excellent coaches.

Students enjoy their sport in PE lessons, team training, through pre and after school activities and during play and free time. The range of sports on offer is purposefully diverse to suit those who prefer and individualised sport and others who prefer to participate as part of a team.

St John’s boasts an outstanding array of facilities for sport which includes a sports arena, sports hall, and multiple artificial and outdoor grass surfaces.

In addition, our links with top-level external sports providers Hulencourt Golf Club and the Justine Henin Tennis Academy means that we can provide extremely attractive pathways for top sportsmen and women who wish to combine superlative sports development with a high quality academic education.

International School Sports Tournament (ISST)

St. John’s is a full member of the International School Sports Tournament (ISST) organization. There are 16 full-member schools and 7 non-full member schools in this league.

For the fourth consecutive year, St. John's has ranked in first place among ISST schools (for schools with a High School enrollment up to 300 students), receiving the Eddie Hufford plate. The plate is awarded to "the ISST school that reflects the high standards of sporting excellence that has always been a fundamental principle of ISST participation."
