Students of our Early Learning School have an outstanding space in which they learn. The purposefully designed buildings and extensive grounds allow opportunities for staff to meet the needs of young children as they develop from age 2½ to 6 years. The idea of the environment as the third teacher is a common understanding of the Reggio Emilia Approach to education and our skilled practitioners ensure the classrooms and open areas offer stimulating opportunities for the holistic development of our students.
Strong, positive relationships between people – children, teachers and parents - are crucial to a strong educational programme and the dedicated team in the Early Learning School encourages strong partnerships between home and school. There are many opportunities for parents to become involved in regular and seasonal activities in Timbertots, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
The idea of the competent child is crucial to the Reggio Emilia Approach and intrinsically linked to the Primary Years Programme notion of “student agency”, our philosophy of our youngest students being capable impacts the expectations we have of them. We encourage them to recognise themselves as scientists, engineers, artists, readers, writers, musicians and actors and our strong and varied programme reinforces this.
The staff has a special way of relating to our students, their families and each other that conveys compassion, understanding, respect and interest alongside high academic expectations. They see the potential in each child and look beyond the obvious.
In our early years programmes - Timbertots, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten - we follow the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
