In Middle School students have the opportunity to audition for two main stage productions each year. Past Middle School main stage productions include Bugsy Malone (2013), The Little Prince (2014), and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (2016). All grade 6, 7, 8 students have drama classes as part of their Related Arts curriculum during the school day. The MS drama curriculum offers instruction in acting, improvisation, scene work, neutral mask, mime, script writing and film acting techniques. Students work on creative team projects to hone collaborative skills.
St. John's is a member of International School Theatre Association (ISTA) and provides opportunities for our students to participate in the various annual drama festivals which take place in countries around the world.
“To all involved, thank you for an unforgettable performance. It showcases St. John’s talent for bringing out the best in every child” - St. John's parent
The performing arts play an important role in the lives of our St. John’s students. Opportunities for creative expression exist at all levels, for all ages throughout the school. We seek to instill a genuine appreciation for varied aesthetic endeavors. This appreciation, in turn, manifests itself in the student’s self discovery of his or her own creative talents. The school’s membership and participation in the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) provides a unique outlet through which students are able to further their acting, directing and technical skills under professional guidance. At St. John’s, we recognize that creative exploration can only further the student’s confidence, initiative, imagination, discipline, teamwork, knowledge and ultimately personal satisfaction.
